The plate served as an illustration for Johann Georg Graevius's monumental collection, Thesaurus Antiquitatum Romanarum.
Jan Goeree was a Dutch draughtsman, engraver, and poet active in Amsterdam. He was highly regarded for his skill in creating illustrations for historical, topographical, and antiquarian publications. His work significantly contributed to important scholarly compilations of the period, including Graevius's extensive Thesaurus, providing detailed visual representations of classical architecture, ruins, and artifacts.
