Jean François de Galaup, Comte de Lapérouse, was a highly regarded French naval officer and explorer who led a major scientific and geographic voyage around the world (1785–1788). Although the expedition was lost at sea, reports, drawings, and logs detailing their stops, including the one in Alaska, were sent back earlier. This print comes from the official account of his voyage, published posthumously.
