This architectural print displays two views of the Temple of Vesta in Tivoli. The upper illustration shows a perspective interior view of the temple's structure, highlighting the coffered ceiling and columnar arrangement. The lower illustration provides a detailed floor plan of the same building. This woodcut was published in Book III (Delle antichità) of Serlio's influential treatise on architecture, Tutte l'opere d'architettura et prospetiva.
Sebastiano Serlio was an Italian Mannerist architect and theorist. He was a pivotal figure in the history of architecture, known for his comprehensive treatise which codified the five classical orders and spread Renaissance architectural styles throughout Europe. His work greatly influenced architects in Italy, France, and beyond.
