This geographical print is a regional map showing a large section of Northern Italy, encompassing Lombardy, the Duchies of Mantua and Modena, the Republic of Genoa, and Tuscany. The map extends south to Florence and includes the Gulf of Genoa and part of the Adriatic Sea near Venice. The coastline is detailed, and the mountainous terrain and major rivers, including the Po River. The map is hand-colored and features a decorative cartouche. A detailed naval battle or action is depicted on the Mer de Genes (Ligurian Sea).
Georges-Louis Le Rouge was an influential French geographer and publisher based in Paris during the mid-18th century. Known primarily for his extensive production of atlases, town plans, and sea charts, Le Rouge played a significant role in disseminating geographical knowledge during the Age of Enlightenment, often republishing or adapting the best contemporary cartography from other nations.
