This illustration was created for a major French natural history publication, an expanded or revised edition of Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon's seminal work, "Histoire Naturelle."

He is known for providing the drawings for lithographic plates used in important French scientific atlases and texts of the era, including his contributions to updated editions of Buffon's comprehensive works on mammals and other fauna.
