The scene includes a rich background landscape featuring a distant harbor, ships, and a small settlement, characteristic of Flemish landscape style. This work is a devotional print created by the Sadeler family, a highly prolific and influential dynasty of Flemish printmakers.
Johannes Sadeler I was a Flemish printmaker, publisher, and draftsman who belonged to the highly influential Sadeler family of artists. He and his brothers were instrumental in establishing a major international print publishing business, first in Antwerp and later moving throughout Europe, including Germany and Italy. Johannes Sadeler I is particularly known for his fine engraving technique and his extensive production of religious and mythological prints after designs by prominent contemporary artists.
