This detailed technical illustration showcases the design and proportional measurements of the Ionic capital and the complete entablature resting above it. The entablature includes highly decorative relief panels, featuring griffins or sphinxes, above the stylized column capital and shaft section. The diagram is complete with technical notations and vertical measurement scales to guide architects and builders. This plate was published in a French edition of the influential treatise, Regola delli cinque ordini d'architettura.

Giacomo Barozzi da Vignola was an Italian Mannerist architect, serving as one of the most important figures of the 16th century in defining the canon of classical design. His treatise on the five orders of architecture became the essential reference work for builders and architects across Europe for centuries, establishing a uniform approach to classical proportion and ornamentation.
