This detailed technical illustration showcases an alternative design for the Doric capital and the complete entablature resting above it. The frieze is prominently displayed with triglyphs and ornate metopes featuring a scrolling shield motif. The lower section shows the column capital and a cross-section (Plan du Chapiteau) detailing the ornamentation. The print includes numerous proportional measurements and notations to guide architects and builders. This plate was published in a French edition of the influential treatise, Regola delli cinque ordini d'architettura.

Giacomo Barozzi da Vignola was an Italian Mannerist architect, serving as one of the most important figures of the 16th century in defining the canon of classical design. His treatise on the five orders of architecture became the essential reference work for builders and architects across Europe for centuries, establishing a uniform approach to classical proportion and ornamentation.
