This plate was published in a French edition of the influential treatise, Regola delli cinque ordini d'architettura.
Giacomo Barozzi da Vignola was an Italian Mannerist architect, serving as one of the most important figures of the 16th century in defining the canon of classical design. His treatise on the five orders of architecture became the essential reference work for builders and architects across Europe for centuries, establishing a uniform approach to classical proportion and ornamentation.
