Beskrivning
This detailed engraving depicts a marble statue of the Roman god Bacchus (Dionysus), shown standing in a contrapposto pose. The god is nude, wearing a crown of grape leaves and holding a piece of drapery adorned with vines over a tree trunk serving as a support. The print reflects the Mannerist influence of the late 16th century in the dramatic musculature and stylized stance of the figure. This engraving was created as a systematic plate for a collection documenting famous classical sculptures.
