Bilder Jan Goeree (1670–1731) – Scenes of Classical Military Training and Pastoral Life – Engraving (c. 1720)
Beskrivning
This engraving features two scenes detailing aspects of classical life. The upper section illustrates ancient soldiers, equipped with large circular shields and spears, engaged in a military drill or formation exercise, possibly involving a wild animal for training purposes. The lower section depicts a rural or pastoral scene involving several figures restraining a ram or sheep, likely representing a sacrifice, hunting, or a domestic incident. The print is characteristic of eighteenth century antiquarian research, illustrating aspects of daily life and military practices from classical texts.
