Bilder Correggio (c. 1489–1534), after – The Nymph Antiope – Engraving (c. 1780)
Beskrivning
This reproductive engraving depicts the mythological subject of Jupiter and the Nymph Antiope, based on the celebrated High Renaissance painting by Correggio. The scene is set in a dense woodland where the nude Antiope lies asleep, attended by a sleeping Cupid. A Satyr or Faun figure, representing Jupiter in disguise, stands over her, lifting a drape. This work captures the sensuality and dramatic light characteristic of the original Renaissance painting.
Antonio Allegri da Correggio was a leading Italian painter of the High Renaissance working primarily in Parma. He is celebrated for his dramatically illusionistic ceiling decorations and emotionally expressive religious and mythological works. His style is characterized by soft modeling, delicate color palettes, and sensuous, luminous figures, which were highly influential on later Baroque artists. Correggio's mythological paintings, known for their lyrical and often intimate depictions, are among the most famous of the Renaissance period.
