This hand-colored copperplate engraving is a double-folio map depicting the northern coast of Venezuela and the historical region of Nueva Andalucia, including the island of Trinidad. The map details the region's topography, coastal features, and includes nautical elements such as compass roses and rhumb lines across the Mar del Norte.

Johannes Janssonius was a highly influential Dutch cartographer, engraver, and publisher who worked in Amsterdam during the 17th century. He is best known for publishing his expanded edition of the Mercator-Hondius atlas, eventually titled the Atlas Novus, which rivaled the production of his contemporary, Joan Blaeu.
