The illustration includes examples of rounded pink blossoms, feathery white plumes, and elongated golden seed heads, each emerging from slender green stalks and sharp, blade-like foliage. This work was published as part of the Phytanthoza Iconographia, a massive and pioneering botanical work that was among the first to successfully use color-printed engravings to document thousands of plants.
Johann Wilhelm Weinmann was a highly influential German apothecary and botanist based in Regensburg whose ambitious publication project set a new standard for botanical illustration in the eighteenth century. His work combined the talents of renowned engravers and artists to create one of the most comprehensive visual records of flowers, fruits, and vegetables from around the world.
