Bilder Johann Wilhelm Weinmann (1683–1741) – Mespilus and Hawthorn Botanical Studies – Engraving (1737–1745)
Beskrivning
This engraving depicts several botanical specimens from the Rosaceae family, specifically focusing on various species of Mespilus and hawthorn. The composition features a central woody branch with small red oval fruits, surrounded by larger serrated green leaves with prominent pale undersides and clusters of delicate white blossoms. Each plant element is rendered with scientific precision to illustrate the unique leaf margins, flowering structures, and fruiting bodies of these orchard and hedgerow species. This plate was published as part of the Phytanthoza Iconographia, a massive and pioneering botanical work that was among the first to successfully use color-printed engravings to document thousands of plants.
