Bilder Johann Wilhelm Weinmann (1683–1741) – Pelargonium and Geranium Botanical Studies – Engraving (1737–1745)
Beskrivning
This engraving depicts several distinct species of the Geraniaceae family, featuring both Pelargonium and Geranium specimens. The composition is dominated by a central cluster of vibrant red five-petaled flowers, complemented by a large, rounded green leaf with prominent radiating veins in the lower foreground. Other studies on the plate illustrate delicate white and pale yellow blossoms with intricate burgundy markings, alongside various leaf forms ranging from deeply lobed and feathery to simple and serrated. Each plant is rendered with scientific precision to showcase the diversity of floral structures and foliage within these genera. This plate was published as part of the Phytanthoza Iconographia, a massive and pioneering botanical work that was among the first to successfully use color-printed engravings to document thousands of plants.
