This engraving depicts the monumental Fontana dell'Acqua Paola, also known as Il Fontanone, located on the Janiculum Hill in Rome. The composition features the grand triumphal arch design of the fountain, showcasing its five distinct arched niches, ionic columns, and the large attic story inscribed with a dedication to Pope Paul V. Detailed architectural elements include the papal coat of arms supported by angels at the summit, decorative dragons and eagles flanking the structure, and the large granite basins at the base designed to receive the cascading water. This work was published as part of the Antiquae Urbis Splendor, an influential series of prints intended to document and celebrate the architectural and topographical grandeur of Rome and its significant public monuments.
