Bilder Pieter Willem Marinus Trap (1852–1905) – Karagoz Shadow Puppet Figures – Illustration (1891)
Beskrivning
This illustration depicts eight distinct shadow puppet figures from the traditional Turkish Karagoz theater. The figures are rendered in a vibrant palette of ochre, red, and blue, featuring the jointed limbs and intricate perforations characteristic of puppets crafted from camel or ox hide. Included in the assembly are various stock characters in traditional Ottoman attire, such as a seated figure on a throne, a man on horseback, and a soldier aimed with a long musket. These figures were documented as part of an ethnographic study to provide a visual record of the material culture and performance arts of the Near East. The work was published as a technical plate for the Internationales Archiv für Ethnographie to assist scholars in the study of regional folk traditions and theatrical history.
