Bilder Georges-Louis Le Rouge (1712–1790) – Map of the Kingdom of Hungary – Engraving (1748)
Beskrivning
This engraving presents a detailed topographical and political map of the Kingdom of Hungary and the Principality of Transylvania, titled Royaume de Hongrie. The composition illustrates the division between Upper Hungary and Lower Hungary, clearly marking major cities such as Buda, Pest, Pressburg, and Belgrade along the course of the Danube River. The geographical landscape is meticulously rendered with river systems and shaded relief for mountainous regions, including the Carpathians. A decorative title cartouche in the upper right corner features an eagle with outspread wings and an ornate coat of arms. Territorial boundaries are accentuated with varied hand-colored outlines in yellow, red, and green to distinguish the administrative jurisdictions and neighboring territories under the influence of the Austrian and Ottoman Empires. This illustration was published as a technical plate for a geographical atlas intended to provide accurate cartographic information for administrative and educational use during the mid-eighteenth century.
