Bilder Cornelis Galle I (1576–1650) – The Resurrection of Christ – Engraving (Circa 1620)
Beskrivning
This print is an engraving depicting The Resurrection of Christ. The scene shows the powerful, radiant figure of Christ rising from the tomb, holding a banner or flag, bathed in divine light. Below him, the Roman guards recoil in terror and awe, shielding their faces or falling to the ground, with their armor and weapons scattered. The dynamic composition and dramatic use of light and shadow (chiaroscuro) are characteristic of the Flemish Baroque style.
Cornelis Galle I was a Flemish engraver and publisher, a prominent member of the Galle family of printmakers. He is most famous for his prolific collaborations with Peter Paul Rubens, whose paintings and designs he translated into highly influential engravings. Galle's work is characterized by its technical mastery, clarity, and dramatic style, making him one of the leading reproductive engravers of the early 17th century.
