This illustration is Plate 19 from the Atlas du Voyage de Bruny-Dentrecasteaux, documenting the natural history findings of the d'Entrecasteaux expedition, based on specimens collected and described by Jacques Labillardière.

Pierre-Joseph Redouté was a Belgian painter and botanist, renowned for his detailed watercolors of flowers, particularly roses and lilies. He was nicknamed "the Raphael of flowers" and served as an official court artist to Queen Marie Antoinette and Empress Joséphine Bonaparte. His illustrations for scientific works, including Labillardière's account of the d'Entrecasteaux voyage, showcase his exceptional combination of scientific accuracy and artistic skill.
