Adolphe Hippolyte Dufour, also known as Auguste Henri Dufour, was a prominent French geographer and cartographer active during the nineteenth century. A student of the famous Lapie, he became a member of several prestigious scientific societies and earned a reputation for the clarity and scientific accuracy of his maps. His career coincided with the golden age of French cartography, during which he produced a vast body of work including universal atlases, specialized postal and railway maps, and military charts. Dufour played a crucial role in documenting the shifting political borders and infrastructural developments of Europe, making his maps essential tools for both administrative use and public education during the era of Napoleon III.
