Beskrivning
Antiquae Urbis Romae Imago Accuratiss. This engraving presents a detailed bird eye view and map of ancient Rome as it was during the imperial era. The composition illustrates the dense urban fabric within the Aurelian walls, featuring major monuments such as the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Circus Maximus, and the various imperial forums. The Tiber River snakes through the city, with bridges and the Trastevere district clearly defined. The map is framed by two large architectural columns; the left column contains a long list of numbered landmarks, while the right column provides a secondary key to the city's sites. In the lower left corner, a decorative cartouche includes an explanatory Latin text and figures, while the lower right corner features an allegorical grouping of figures near a pedestal.
