Beskrivning

"View of the Arch of Constantine and an Architectural Pedestal" consists of two hand-coloured etchings featuring classical Roman architecture and design elements. The upper image illustrates the Arch of Constantine in Rome, depicted with figures in the foreground to provide scale and emphasizing the triumphal monument's three archways and intricate bas-reliefs. The lower image presents a technical architectural drawing of a pedestal or base for a column, shown in profile with precise geometric proportions. These plates were published in Weimar between 1790 and 1830 as part of the Bilderbuch für Kinder, a landmark educational series designed to introduce children to the wonders of the natural and man-made world. The work utilizes fine line work and a delicate wash of color to document significant historical landmarks and the principles of classical design for a young audience.
