Beskrivning

"Grèce Ancienne par C. V. Monin." This hand-coloured map provides a detailed cartographic representation of ancient Greece, the Peloponnese, and the numerous islands of the Aegean and Ionian Seas. The composition features an elegant, cloud-like decorative title cartouche in the lower left corner and several linear scales at the bottom, including French leagues and Olympic stadia. Various historical regions such as Macedonia, Thessaly, Attica, and the Peloponnese are delineated with delicate hand-coloured borders in red, blue, and green. This engraving was published in the Petit Atlas National des Départements de la France et de ses Colonies in Paris by Monin himself. The work served as a primary historical reference, identifying the cities, mountain ranges, and territories of the Greek city-states as known from classical antiquity.
