Bilder Felix Delamarche (active 1820-1850) – Map of the Kingdom of the Netherlands – Hand-coloured engraving (1831)
Beskrivning
"Royaume des Pays-Bas Divisé en ses 18 Provinces par Fx. Delamarche." This hand-coloured map illustrates the Kingdom of the Netherlands as it was established following the Congress of Vienna, including both the Northern and Southern Netherlands (modern-day Belgium and Luxembourg). The composition features a simple circular title cartouche in the upper left corner and multiple linear scales in the lower left. Territorial boundaries of the 18 provinces are delineated with delicate hand-coloured outlines in yellow, green, and pink. This engraving was published in the Atlas de la Géographie in Paris. The map provides a detailed political record of the region just prior to the finalization of the Belgian Revolution, identifying major cities, river systems, and administrative districts from Friesland in the north to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in the south.
Felix Delamarche was a notable French cartographer and publisher who continued the influential geographical legacy of his father, Charles-François Delamarche. Operating from Paris, he was instrumental in maintaining the family firm's reputation for producing high-quality educational atlases and globes that were widely used across Europe. Delamarche was known for updating classical cartographic plates with contemporary political divisions and geographical discoveries, ensuring his works remained relevant for academic and commercial use. His contributions to nineteenth-century French cartography are characterized by a balance of technical precision and clear, functional design.
