Beskrivning

"Feliciter Iam Omnia" depicts a central celestial scene within a grand architectural framework. The interior composition features a radiant sun and a crescent moon emitting light towards a central point, surmounted by a crown held by two hovering putti. This scene is framed by an elaborate Mannerist portal adorned with various allegorical figures: a female figure holding a wheel to the left, a winged figure with a laurel wreath to the right, and two reclining river gods at the base supporting a central heraldic shield. This copper engraving was published in Venice as part of the work Le Imprese Illustri con Esposizioni et Discorsi, a prestigious emblem book dedicated to the heraldry and symbolic mottos of the Italian nobility. The work is recognized for its sophisticated artistic design and its role in the 16th-century tradition of documenting the intellectual and moral identity of influential families.

Girolamo Ruscelli was an Italian humanist, polymath, and cartographer who was a central figure in the literary and scientific circles of mid-sixteenth-century Venice. He was a prolific editor and author, known for his expanded editions of Ptolemy's Geography and his foundational work on the study of heraldic devices and emblems. Ruscelli founded the Accademia dei Dubbiosi and published extensively on topics ranging from linguistics and poetry to secret recipes and natural philosophy. His contributions to the visual arts were primarily through the conceptualization and production of high-quality emblem books, which utilized some of the finest engravers of the period to create lasting records of Renaissance symbolism.
