Bilder Georges Braque (1882–1963), after – Poster for Galerie Maeght – Lithography (20th Century)
Beskrivning
"Sur 4 Murs" depicts a minimalist composition featuring three stylized bird figures in flight, rendered in shades of white and pale green against a textured olive-brown background. The work utilizes the fluid, organic lines characteristic of the artist's late career and includes integrated typography promoting an exhibition at the Galerie Maeght. This work was published in the volume Art in the Poster, printed in 1959 by the Mourlot Frères workshop under the direction of Fernand Mourlot for André Sauret. The series was dedicated to documenting the original lithographic posters of the School of Paris, capturing the specific aesthetic qualities and graphic innovations of mid-century French modernism.
Georges Braque was a foundational figure of 20th-century art and the co-founder of Cubism alongside Pablo Picasso. His extensive career was marked by a constant evolution from the bold colors of Fauvism to the fractured perspective of analytic Cubism and later to a more lyrical, symbolic style often centered on themes of birds and studio interiors. Braque maintained a long and fruitful collaboration with the Mourlot workshop, where he found the lithographic medium perfectly suited for his interest in texture and spatial depth. His graphic works, particularly those created for the Galerie Maeght, are highly regarded for their elegant simplicity and their role in establishing the exhibition poster as a significant medium for artistic expression.
