Bilder Pablo Picasso (1881–1973), after – The Equestrian and the Performer – Lithography - 1954
Beskrivning
"31.1.54. VII" depicts a colorful circus scene featuring a central white horse carrying a rider in a purple and yellow striped costume. To the left stands a tall figure in a multi-colored patterned suit, while to the right, a female performer with long hair and a green skirt looks toward the central group. This offset print was published in the suite titled La Comedie Humaine, printed in 1954 by the Mourlot Freres workshop for Verve magazine. The work captures the artist's fascination with the world of the circus and the harlequin, reflecting his mastery of expressive line and minimalist form during his later period.
Pablo Picasso was a foundational figure of 20th-century art and a central pioneer of the Cubist movement. His prolific career spanned several distinct artistic periods and included groundbreaking work in painting, sculpture, ceramics, and printmaking. Picasso frequently returned to the theme of the circus, viewing performers as symbolic figures for the role of the artist in society. His collaborations with the Mourlot workshop allowed him to explore the graphic potential of lithography and print, resulting in some of the most recognizable imagery of the modern era.
