"Daniel in der Leeuwen kuyl geworpen, is door Godts bewaringh onbeschadight gebleve" depicts the biblical narrative from the Book of Daniel. The composition shows the prophet Daniel seated calmly in the center of a stone-vaulted den, surrounded by several lions that remain docile in his presence. In the upper right, a small inset scene shows kingly figures looking down into the pit, witnessing the miracle of his survival. This woodcut was published in Amsterdam as part of the Toneel der rarieteiten, a series illustrating notable biblical events. The work is a representative example of Dutch Golden Age graphic art, characterized by its fine linework and dramatic narrative composition.

Pieter Schut was a Dutch Golden Age engraver and etcher active in Amsterdam during the mid-seventeenth century. He was a prolific creator of biblical illustrations, topographical views, and historical scenes, often working for prominent publishers such as Claes Janszoon Visscher. Schut is particularly noted for his skill in condensing complex narratives into small-scale prints that remained accessible to a wide public audience. His contribution to the visual culture of the Netherlands helped to standardize the iconography of many scriptural stories during a period of intense religious and artistic development.
