Conrad Malte-Brun was a Danish-born geographer and political writer who became a leading figure in French cartography after being exiled from his homeland. He is best known for founding the Societe de Geographie in Paris and for his monumental multi-volume work, Precis de la Geographie Universelle, which aimed to provide a comprehensive scientific description of the world. Malte-Brun's approach combined physical geography with historical and ethnographic data, making his atlases essential references for scholars of the era. His contributions helped to establish geography as a modern academic discipline and left a lasting influence on European cartographic standards throughout the nineteenth century.
