"Tempio detto della Fortuna Virile" depicts the ancient Roman temple of Portunus, historically referred to as the Temple of Fortuna Virilis, located in the Forum Boarium. The composition features the well-preserved ionic tetrastyle portico of the temple, with a small bell tower added to the roof during its later use as a church. To the right, a street recedes into the distance where other classical structures and a tall campanile are visible, while several small figures and livestock occupy the foreground. This etching was published in Rome as part of the series Nuova Raccolta delle Migliori Vedute Antiche e Moderne di Roma. It serves as a topographical record of Rome’s architectural heritage during the late eighteenth century.

Giovanni Domenico Cassini was an Italian engraver and draughtsman active in Rome during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. He specialized in architectural and topographical views, contributing significantly to the documentation of Rome's ancient and modern landmarks for travelers and scholars. Cassini was a contemporary of Giovanni Battista Piranesi and worked within a similar tradition of meticulously detailed and atmospheric etchings. His publications were instrumental in the dissemination of Roman architectural imagery throughout Europe during the era of the Grand Tour. Through his technical mastery of the etched line, he captured the enduring grandeur and character of the Eternal City.
