This topographical map depicts the Seventeen Provinces of the Low Countries, a region encompassing the modern-day Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and parts of northern France. The map details the area's complex network of rivers, fortified cities, and political boundaries, with outline color used to delineate the various territories. The title, "Les Dix-Sept Provinces des Pays Bas," is displayed in a decorative cartouche in the upper left corner, which also features a pastoral scene.

Georges-Louis Le Rouge was a prominent French cartographer, engraver, and publisher who was active in Paris during the mid-18th century. He held the title of "Ingénieur Géographe du Roi" (Geographer to the King). He is best known for his numerous atlases, including the Atlas Nouveau Portatif, as well as his detailed maps of cities, fortifications, and gardens.
