This topographical map depicts the island of St. Domingue (Hispaniola), showing its division into the French-controlled "Quartier Francois" and the Spanish-controlled "Quartier Espagnol."
Georges-Louis Le Rouge was a prominent French cartographer, engraver, and publisher who was active in Paris during the mid-18th century. He held the title of "Ingénieur Géographe du Roi" (Geographer to the King). He is best known for his numerous atlases, including the Atlas Nouveau Portatif, as well as his detailed maps of cities, fortifications, and gardens.
