This geographical engraving, titled "Carte de la Tartarie Occidentale" (Map of Western Tartary), depicts the vast interior regions of Central and East Asia, including parts of Siberia, Turkestan, and Mongolia, labeled as Tartars of Kalmuck and Tartars of Ortuos.

Antoine-François Prévost, often known as the Abbé Prévost, was a French novelist, historian, and cleric, best known for Manon Lescaut and for editing and compiling this popular multi-volume collection of global travel accounts.
