This engraving presents a detailed geographical map of the Western Hemisphere, illustrating the continents of North and South America within a circular projection. The work features precise delineations of regional coastlines, islands in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, and various topographical markers, originally published as part of the prestigious Stieler Hand-Atlas. Justus Perthes was a prominent German publisher and the founder of a major cartographic publishing house in Gotha. His firm became world famous for producing atlases that set the global standard for scientific accuracy and high-quality copperplate engraving throughout the nineteenth century.
