Beskrivning

"Eriospermeae Endl. Ophiopogoneae Endl." presents a comprehensive botanical analysis of several plant species from the Asparagaceae family. The composition features detailed illustrations of entire plants, including their root structures, foliage, and flowering stalks, alongside numerous cross-sections of flowers, seeds, and reproductive organs. This hand-coloured lithograph is part of the extensive work Iconographia familiarum naturalium regni vegetabilis, published in Bonn by Max Cohen & Sohn in 1843. The publication is a fundamental contribution to nineteenth-century systematic botany, designed to provide a clear visual record of the natural orders of the plant kingdom.

Adalbert Schnizlein was a prominent German botanist and pharmacist who served as a professor and the director of the botanical garden at the University of Erlangen. He is best known for his monumental Iconographia, which occupied him for over two decades and remains a major reference for botanical classification. Schnizlein's work is characterized by meticulous scientific accuracy and a focus on the morphological details necessary for the identification of plant families. His contributions were instrumental in advancing the study of regional and global flora during the mid-nineteenth century.
