"Machine pour sécher un Marais" depicts a mechanical apparatus featuring gears, levers, and a large scoop, intended for the drainage of swampy terrain. This work is a copperplate engraving. It originates from an eighteenth-century technical encyclopedia published in France. The image illustrates the application of mechanical principles to civil engineering and land reclamation tasks.

Robert Bénard was a French engraver who was active throughout the late eighteenth century. He is best recognized for his significant contributions to the Encyclopedie, edited by Denis Diderot and Jean le Rond d'Alembert.
