Bilder Girolamo Ruscelli (c. 1500-1566) – Title page featuring Charles V – Engraving (1566)
Beskrivning
"Carlo Quinto Imperatore" depicts the heraldic emblem of Emperor Charles V. The central design features the Imperial crown positioned above the two Pillars of Hercules, which are adorned with ribbons bearing the motto Plus Vltra. The composition is surrounded by an intricate architectural border populated by cherubic figures, fruit garlands, and grotesque masks, reflecting the elaborate Mannerist decorative style of the period. This copperplate engraving serves as a dedicated plate within a larger volume on historical symbolism and heraldry. It originates from the publication Imprese illustri, published in Venice in 1566.
