"Auffriss eines grossen Camines vor einen Haupt-Saal" depicts a large, ornate fireplace designed for a grand hall. The engraving illustrates the architectural elevation of the fireplace structure and includes a ground plan at the base. It utilizes architectural columns, ornamental garlands, and a pediment to articulate its classical design. This copper engraving originates from the architectural treatise titled Complete Instruction on Civil Architecture, edited by Leonhard Christoph Sturm and published in Wolfenbuettel in 1696. The work demonstrates Goldmann's meticulous application of mathematical proportions to the ornamental and sculptural programs of Baroque civil buildings.

Nikolaus Goldmann was a German mathematician and architectural theorist who spent most of his professional life in Leiden. He developed a highly systematic approach to architectural design based on mathematical principles and the study of Vitruvius. Goldmann is best known for creating a comprehensive system of proportions that influenced generations of architects across Northern Europe. Although he died before its final publication, his extensive manuscripts were edited and released by Leonhard Christoph Sturm to become a standard reference in the field.
