Zieric-Zee, aen de land syde provides a panoramic view of the fortified city of Zierikzee, depicted from the landward side. The engraving showcases the city walls, church towers, windmills, and the surrounding agricultural landscape. The composition is adorned with cherubic figures holding coats of arms in the upper corners. It is a copper engraving that originates from the Nieuwe Chronyk van Zeeland, published in 1696.
Mattheus Smallegange was a Dutch historian and genealogist. He is best known for his comprehensive chronicles of the province of Zeeland. His work included detailed descriptions and visual records of the region's topography and urban development. He significantly contributed to the historiography of the Netherlands through his cartographic and narrative documentation.
