Sic fossis fonis magno stridore Elephantes. Agmine conveniunt, capiuntur cuspidis ictu. The work depicts an intense scene of an elephant hunt in a dense, tropical-style forest. Hunters on horseback, equipped with long spears, surround and engage a group of elephants, capturing the dynamic action of the pursuit. This engraving is part of the extensive series Venationes Ferarum, Avium, Piscium, which illustrates various hunting practices and encounters with exotic animals. The composition emphasizes the dramatic interaction between the hunters and the wildlife, a hallmark of the series' narrative focus.

Johannes Stradanus was a Flemish artist who spent the majority of his career in Florence, Italy, working under the patronage of the Medici family. He was a prominent figure in the late Mannerist style, known for his intricate designs for tapestries and extensive series of engravings.
