The series aimed to document the diversity of the natural world through detailed illustrations for scientific and decorative purposes.
Pierre-Joseph Buc'hoz was a French physician and naturalist who produced an extensive collection of illustrated natural history books during the eighteenth century. He held the position of ordinary physician to the King of Poland and contributed significantly to the dissemination of botanical knowledge in France. His publications are recognized for their elaborate hand-colouring and fine engraving techniques. Buc'hoz remains one of the most productive natural history authors of the Enlightenment era.
