Bilder Tanigami Konan (1879–1928) – Japanese Maple Leaves – Woodblock print (1923)
Beskrivning
"Japanese Maple Leaves" illustrates a graceful arrangement of maple branches displaying foliage in various stages of seasonal color, ranging from pale green and yellow to deep autumnal red. This woodblock print is a double-page plate from the botanical series Seiyo Soka Zufu, published by Unsodo in Kyoto in 1923 and printed by Sagi Keizo using the original woodblocks. The composition reflects the transition of Japanese floral art toward a more naturalistic and vivid style.
Tanigami Konan was a Japanese painter and printmaker active during the Taisho and early Showa eras. He was a prominent figure in the Nihon-ga movement and specialized in kacho-e, the traditional genre of bird and flower motifs. Konan was among the first artists to document western floral varieties in Japan, blending traditional woodblock artistry with western botanical realism. His extensive collaborations with the publisher Unsodo resulted in several influential botanical albums that documented flora with technical precision.
