Beskrivning

"Acipenser Ruthenus" This plate depicts the sterlet sturgeon in full profile, featuring its characteristic elongated snout and rows of bony scutes along the body, accompanied by anatomical details of the head and mouth. The work is a hand-coloured etching. It was published in the monumental ichthyological study Allgemeine Naturgeschichte der Fische by Marcus Elieser Bloch, printed in Berlin. This series is considered one of the most beautiful and comprehensive works on fish ever produced, notable for the high quality of its illustrations and the use of silver and gold leaf in some editions to mimic the sheen of fish scales.
