Beskrivning

"Pleuronectes Flesus" This plate illustrates two views of the European flounder, showing both the light underside and the dark, camouflaged upper side of the flatfish, along with a central anatomical diagram. The work is a hand-coloured etching. It was published in the seminal ichthyological series Allgemeine Naturgeschichte der Fische by Marcus Elieser Bloch, printed in Berlin. This publication is renowned for its scientific rigor and the artistic quality of its plates, which often employed specialized pigments to capture the iridescent quality of fish scales.
