"Pl. VI." This plate illustrates various species of lizards, including a large individual with distinctive blue spots along its flank and another with vibrant blue and red markings shown alongside eggs and a juvenile specimen. The technical nature is a hand-coloured copper engraving. It was published in the Recueil de Planches, which served as the visual supplement to the Encyclopedie edited by Denis Diderot and Jean le Rond d Alembert in Paris. This illustration represents the Enlightenment era's systematic effort to document and categorize the diverse reptilian life found in both European and colonial territories.
Claude-Mathieu Fessard was a prolific French engraver and print publisher active in eighteenth-century Paris.
