"Exiuit ergo Iesus portans coronam spineam, et purpureum vestimentum. Et dicit eis Pilatus: Ecce homo." This scene depicts Pontius Pilate presenting Jesus Christ to the crowd while wearing the crown of thorns and a purple robe, standing upon a balcony with various onlookers and soldiers. The technical nature is a copper engraving. It was published in the Thesaurus Sacrarum Historiarum Veteris et Novi Testamenti, which was printed in Antwerp by Gerard de Jode. This significant biblical series gathered the contributions of premier Flemish artists to provide a comprehensive visual narrative of the scriptures.

Marten de Vos was a leading Flemish painter and draughtsman who became one of the most influential artists in Antwerp during the late sixteenth century. After studying in Italy and being influenced by the Venetian school, he returned to his homeland to establish a highly productive workshop. He was a central figure in the Guild of Romanists and served as a primary designer for major publishing houses such as the Plantin Press. His clear and elegant compositions were vital in the development of Northern Mannerist art and the visual dissemination of Counter-Reformation themes.
