"Carte Generale de l'Afrique." This map illustrates the continent of Africa with hand-coloured borders delineating various regions and kingdoms, including the Sahara Desert and the southern Cape. The technical nature is a hand-coloured copper engraving published in Paris by J.B. Delaval.
Edme Mentelle was a prominent French geographer and historian who held positions as a professor at the Ecole Normale and was a member of the Institut de France. He was known for modernizing geographical education by producing clear atlases that integrated historical context with contemporary political boundaries. His works served as standard academic references throughout the early nineteenth century and were noted for their accuracy and systematic approach to global topography.
