Two pastoral scenes. The first scene shows travelers and herdsmen moving with cattle, sheep, and horses under the shade of trees. The second scene shows a woman and child feeding turkeys and chickens outside a farm building. These etchings use aquatint to create tonal depth. This work is a plate from a series of pastoral designs published in Paris by Huet.
Jean-Baptiste Huet was a French painter and engraver who specialized in animal and landscape subjects. He studied under Jean-Baptiste Le Prince and became a member of the French Academy in 1769. Huet is recognized for his contributions to decorative arts and his designs for printed textiles. His work defined the pastoral aesthetic of the late eighteenth century in France.
